1. Introduction
Welcome to FileStation. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we handle data in our online storage space service, which is designed to be used without a personal user account.
2. No Personal Account
FileStation has no personal accounts. A storage space is protected by a name and a password, and everyone who signs in with them shares a single identity inside it — we do not ask for an email address, do not distinguish individual people or devices, and do not maintain user profiles.
3. Data We Collect
Due to the nature of our service, data collection is limited to what a storage space needs to function:
- Uploaded Files: The files uploaded to a storage space are stored on our servers for as long as the storage space or file exists.
- Storage Space Metadata: The storage space name, a salted hash of its password, storage usage, the contents of the shared note, and anonymous download timestamps.
- Usage Data: We may collect anonymous server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) for security, abuse prevention, and service diagnostics. Failed sign-in attempts are counted per storage space and IP address to limit password guessing.
4. Storage & Retention Policy
Unlike a one-off file transfer, a FileStation storage space is persistent: files and the shared note remain available to everyone with the password until someone removes them.
- Files and the shared note are kept until someone signed into the storage space deletes them, or deletes the storage space itself.
- Each storage space has a storage quota; uploads that would exceed it are rejected.
- Once a file or storage space is deleted, it cannot be recovered. We do not keep backups of deleted data.
5. Security
The storage space password is the only thing protecting its contents. Anyone who knows the storage space name and password has full access — including uploading, downloading, deleting files, and deleting the storage space itself. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes and cannot be recovered by us, so choose a strong one and share it only with people you trust.
