FileStation is a free personal cloud. Your files live on the web, so any browser can open them — nothing to install. A space is protected by its name, a password, and an authenticator app. Signing in opens your file desktop, with a note beside the files.
Get started in three steps
1. Create your space
From the home page, pick a space name (8 to 50 characters, no spaces) and a password (at least 4 characters), then scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator. The QR code is shown only once, while you create the space, so make sure the scan worked before moving on.
2. Put files in the cloud
Signing in opens a file desktop. Drag files onto it, or right-click to upload — up to 50 files at a time. Images, video, PDFs, and text files preview right in the browser, so you do not have to download them first.
3. Keep using it on another device
Enter the same name, password, and code in any browser to see the same files. Photos you uploaded on your phone are ready to preview or download on your computer.

FileStation is built around three things: a cloud of your own, two-factor protection, and a website that opens anywhere.
A personal cloud
This is your own file desktop, not a one-off download link. Files and the note stay until you delete them or delete the space. There is no countdown and no automatic clean-up.
Two-factor protection
Signing in needs the space name, the password, and the 6-digit code your authenticator app is showing right now. The password alone does not get anyone in, and each code works only once. Too many failed attempts lock that IP for 15 minutes.
A website you can open anywhere
It is just a web page — nothing to install, and no particular operating system. Any browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac, or Linux can sign into the same space.
When it is useful
Your own hand-off between devices
Photos from your phone and downloads from your computer land in the same space. Sign in on the other device and they are there — no more sending files to yourself.
An online backup for photos and files
Keep the photos and documents you reach for often in the cloud, then preview or download them in the browser. Files do not expire.
Someone else's computer is enough
A library, office, or friend's computer only needs a browser. Sign out when you are done — no app is left on the device.
Files you need while you are out
Keep a deck, a form, or a contract in the space. Any device with a browser can open it, so you do not have to carry a USB drive.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I need to create a space?
- A space name, a password, and an authenticator app on your phone (Google Authenticator, 1Password, etc.). Signing in needs all three.
- Is it secure? Who can see my files?
- A space is protected by its password together with a 6-digit code from an authenticator app. Only someone who has the space name, the password, and the authenticator can get in. To limit guessing, too many failed sign-ins for the same space and IP address lock that IP for 15 minutes. Keep the sign-in details to yourself.
- Does it work on a phone? Do I need an app?
- There is nothing to install. FileStation runs in the browser on phones, tablets, and computers — Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac, and Linux alike.
- Are my files still there on another device?
- Yes. Files live in the cloud, not on one device. Any browser that signs into the same space sees the same files and the same note.
- Do files expire or get deleted automatically?
- No. Files and the note stay until you delete them or delete the space itself. Once deleted they cannot be recovered — we keep no backups of deleted data.
- Is there a size or file-count limit?
- Each space has a 1 GB storage quota, and uploads that would exceed it are rejected. A single upload can carry up to 50 files; split larger batches across several uploads.
- Does the password expire? What if I forget it?
- The password never expires on its own — it stays valid until you change it. It is stored only as a salted hash that we cannot reverse, so a forgotten password cannot be recovered or reset. Keep it somewhere safe. Changing the password in settings signs out every other browser, including your own other devices.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. FileStation is free to use and carries no ads. The service is still in Beta and development is ongoing, so use it at your own risk and keep a separate backup of anything important.
